SEARCH BY TERM INSTRUCTIONS & TIPS
In the “ENTER YOUR SEARCH TEXT HERE” box, enter one or more terms that you want to locate using the DocSearch Engine. Separate terms by spaces ONLY (please do not use commas or other punctuation). The search is not case sensitive- capital and lower case letters are treated the same. Common words such as "and", "but", "for", "it", etc., will be ignored by the search, as these words are located in virtually every document in the database and would delay search times. However, when using the “EXACT PHRASE” search (see below), common words can be used so long as they are part of the phrase.
THEN use the “SEARCH OPTIONS” drop down menu to choose ONE of THREE parameters for your search: “Contains any of the words”, “Contains all the words” or “Exact Phrase”.
(1) Choose "Contains any of the words” to search for documents containing at least one of the terms in the SEARCH box. This choice will obtain more documents then if you choose “Contains all the Words”.
(2) Choose “Contains all the words” search option to locate documents containing every word listed. This option will limit your search to documents containing all of the terms entered.
(3) Choose the “Exact Phrase” search to locate documents containing a specific phrase (e.g., labor law, labor law 240 or service of process). Please do not place the phrase in “quotes”, as the site does so automatically.
You can also further limit your search by choosing a STATE and/or an AREA OF LAW. These choices are optional. By not using these functions, you will obtain a larger search result.
SEARCH TIP: Remember, when using the “Contains all the words” search, the more terms you enter, the more refined your search will be. If you do not obtain any results, try removing words that are not vital to your search. While this search can be a valuable tool, it can also become too narrow of a search if too many terms are entered. Conversely, when using the “Contains any of the words” search, you may get results that are of no interest to you since this is the broadest search you can perform. This search is especially useful when searching for unique and highly specialized terms. |
